The sheriff's office says Esta Currier died from her injuries in the small town of Marietta.

Her two grandchildren, ages 9 and 7, were both seriously hurt and were flown to a hospital in Florence, South Carolina.

Both of the kids are in stable condition.

"My understanding is they broke out. And we see that lady out there with her grandkids getting them on the bus in the morning and picking them up in the afternoon. It's just a terrible accident," said Marietta resident John Bare.

Esta Currier was related to the dog's owner, Brenda Walters.

Walters was also injured in the incident.

The four dogs were shot and killed by sheriff's deputies when the animals approached the lawmen aggressively.

The dogs are being tested for rabies. Officials say they were not up to date on their rabies shots.
