CLAYTON, N.C. -- A Clayton music teacher is accused of forcing an adult student into a sexual relationship.

  • Clayton Police say 60-year-old Ivan Hampden, Jr. promised the adult student a singing career.
  • Hampden owns the Hamptown Music Institute on Barbour Street in downtown Clayton.
  • Officials say over a four-year period, the victim, who is 58, took singing lessons at that location.

Officials say over a four-year period, the victim, who is 58, took singing lessons at that location.

Hampden is charged with five counts of sexual servitude and seven felonies for disseminating obscenity.

He is being held in the Johnston County Detention Center on a $200,000 bond. He had his first court appearance Thursday and asked for a court appointed attorney. He will appear in court again on December 20.

Officials are asking for anyone else who may have been victim to come forward.
