RALEIGH, N.C. -- William Peace University has given students an "all clear" after reports of a possible gunman on campus at William Peace University.

Police stood guard on campus and told students to shelter in place.

Authorities said they were responding to a welfare check in Fuquay-Varina after the parents of a distraught 19-year-old male went missing from their home. They didn't know his whereabouts but said items including a firearm were also missing. It was believed he may have been headed to William Peace University. The male has since been located and is receiving medical assistance.

University officials said classes will be canceled for the rest of the day but there is no active threat to the campus.
