NORTH CAROLINA -- The North Carolina Republican Party is calling on Governor Cooper to take action against the chairman of the state Board of Elections and Ethics.

  • The NCGOP says some of Andy Penry's tweets show he can't be unbiased.

  • This comes shortly after the NC board of elections refused to certify the results of the 9th District race for congressman.

The NCGOP says some of Andy Penry's tweets show he can't be unbiased.

The director of communications for the GOP cites 17 pages of tweets chairman Penry responded to. Some appear to poke fun at Congressman George Holding's appearance. Others suggest President Trump should get a "diaper change". The GOP spokesperson says these biased opinions posted publicly should disqualify him from remaining in that position.

"He's supposed to be a neutral arbiter. This social media presence shows that the people don't have faith in him to be a neutral arbiter," said communications director Jeff Hauser.

This comes shortly after the NC board of elections refused to certify the results of the 9th District race for congressman, where democrat Dan McCready conceded to Republican Mark Harris.

Democrats are concerned at this time there may be fraudulent activities happening which would cause a change in the 9th district's election results.
