WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. – A Chapel Hill man accused of racing and then leading police on a high speed chase in Goldsboro is facing a list of charges.
- Mark Crabtree has been arrested after hitting 157 mph during a police chase.
- Crabtree is thought to have been racing on HWY 70 prior to the arrest.
- He was driving a 2000 Chevy Camaro SS, which was seized.
Police say Mark Crabtree led officers on a chase down Highway 70 from Wayne to Johnston County in a black 2000 Chevy Camaro SS early Monday morning, at one point hitting 157 mph.
Crabtree is believed to have been racing prior to the chase beginning.
Police used a tire deflation device to immobilize Crabtree’s Camaro, bringing him to a stop south of Cornwallis Road, just inside the Johnston County line.
Crabtree was arrested and charged with a string of crimes by three different law enforcement agencies.
- Felony Fleeing to Elude by the Goldsboro Police Department,
- Damage to Property in related to the tire deflation device used to stop him by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office
- Speeding (going 157 MPH in a 55 MPH Zone) and Careless & Reckless Driving by the NC Highway Patrol
Crabtree was taken to the Wayne County Detention Center and booked on a $3,000 bond. He has been released on bond and is expected in court Wednesday.
The Camaro was seized in accordance with North Carolina’s “Run & Done” statutes.
