WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Parents are frustrated over the reassignment plan for next year.

  • The regular board meeting happened Wednesday night and the public hearing began after that.
  • Base assignments are being proposed.
  • The board is expected to vote on the final draft on November 20.

The school board has been spending hours going over the assignment plans and there's still concern to make sure they're providing stability to students. But they're dealing with schools without seats available.

The regular board meeting happened Wednesday night and the public hearing began after that, where about 30 parents, happy and unhappy with the proposals, spoke.

The newest suggestion from the board is around Parkside Elementary School. A lot of parents in Morrisville have been asking Parkside to open as a traditional calendar school rather than year-round. That won't change, but base assignments are being proposed.

If the student is base assigned to Parkside but they're coming from traditional calendar Alston Ridge or Carpenter Elementary, they can be grandfathered to those two schools they're already at but without bus transportation.

Parents in the Cameron Pond community have also been concerned about leaving Mills Park. That was addressed with members asking if there could be a delay for one year to change their base assignment, but Mills Park has been capped since 2012 and the delay didn't get board support.

The board is expected to vote on the final draft on November 20.
