DURHAM, N.C. -- A North Carolina Central University business major has been named as a 2018 HBCU Competitiveness Scholar.

  • Jameerah Ali was given the honor by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities
  • Ali is among 63 students with the honor
  • She's involved with several student organizations on NCCU's campus

Jameerah Ali was given the honor by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities, a program that recognizes outstanding student performance in higher education.

Ali is among 63 students and it's based on high achievement in academics, campus involvement, entrepreneurial ethos and civic engagement.

She participated in the White House HBCU Week Conference held Sept. 16-18 in Washington, D.C., in which she was presented with the award during the Excellence in Innovation and Competitiveness Awards ceremony.

Ali is a Philadelphia native involved with several student organizations, including Financial Management Society and NCCU's student chapter of National Association of Black Accountants where she serves as president.
