Most of North Carolina has not seen any rain for the last two to three days.  That will help flood waters for many rivers in the eastern part of the state to slowly recede through the weekend and early next week.  However, that will not be the case for all rivers.  One significant concern over the next few days will be the Lumber River at Lumberton.  That river is actually rising again.

The Lumber River crested earlier in the week but saw just a slight drop in water levels after that crest.  The river began to rise again Thursday and is forecast to continue to rise through Sunday morning.

The second crest over the weekend should be at somewhat lower level than earlier this week, but new flooding along the river is expected.

The already elevated levels of the Lumber River are causing the water arriving from upstream to spread out.  This will cause areas that did not flood during the first crest to flood Friday or this weekend.

The National Weather Service says the flooding is expected to worsen between I-95 and Highway 711 Friday.
