WAKE COUNTY, N.C. – A sign honoring UNC's championship now has a new home after the original was vandalized.

  • First sign was spray painted and taken down.
  • New location is near RDU Airport
  • Cost to re-install was $1,800.

It’s now located along Interstate 40 near Aviation Parkway near RDU International Airport.

The sign celebrates the Tar Heels Men’s Basketball Team for winning the 2017 NCAA Championship.

Transportation officials say the sign is now a few miles from the initial location near N.C. State's campus and they're hoping it doesn't get vandalized again.

"Hopefully, with it being further away there will be less interest in doing damage to it,” said NCDOT Engineer Joey Hopkins. “Again, it's against the law. It's vandalism and it doesn't just cost me or DOT, it costs all of us when we have to go out and handle that."

Officials say the sign cost $1,800 to re-install.
