RALEIGH, N.C. -- State lawmakers are making some changes with a corrections bill that's quickly moving through the legislature.

  • Bill includes funding for the suicide prevention hotline.
  • Also changes controversial language that was found in the spending plan proposal dealing with Durham-Orange light rail.
  • House expected to take up the bill on Thursday.

It includes funding for the suicide prevention hotline, which had inadvertently been left out of the original budget.

The bill also changes controversial language that was found in the spending plan proposal dealing with Durham-Orange Light Rail, keeping funding for the rail on track.

“We’re in line to get a half billion dollars that has been pledged by the federal government. The original budget put that on hold that they wanted the money committed; however, as long as I believe the new language is pledged, we’re going to keep the light rail in effect,” said Rep. Marcia Morey, (D) Durham County.

The budget bill also steps back on a directive that would have charged troopers a tuition to be trained for their jobs.

The House is expected to take up the bill on Thursday.
