CARY, N.C. – Not only is Wednesday Valentine’s Day, it’s also Ash Wednesday – the first day of Lent.

People too busy to stop in their places of worship to get a symbolic cross of ashes, had a place in the Triangle to turn to.

Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary offered "ashes to go" Wednesday morning.

All you had to do is drive up in the parking lot to receive your ashes and a blessing.

"Ash Wednesday, you know in the life of the church, is a day of humanity and sinfulness,” said Rev. Wolfgang Herz-Lane. “That's why we have ashes on our forehead in the form of a cross to remind us how broken we are and how far we are from God."

This is the second year that Christ the King Church has offered "to-go" ashes.

Church members expected 200 people come through.
