RALEIGH -- Rex Hospital transformed its parking lot into the scene of a successful day of celebration for cancer survivors.

The event included food, games, inflatables and live music. The only thing people had to bring was a lawn chair to join in on the fun.

"Cancer is a life-changing experience. We recognize that it impacts the person and their entire family, but we also realize that it changes perspective in life and so many people say 'Cancer gave me the gift of appreciating life,'" said Emmeline Madsen, Rex Hospital.

The event was part of the hospital's community education and outreach, in which the goal is to educate people about cancer and help not only provide early detection but prevent it altogether.
