DURHAM – The home of Duke and North Carolina Central University is being recognized as one of the best college towns in the country.

Livability.com released its top 10 best college towns list for 2015 and Durham ranked second behind Manhattan, Kan. The site says the city provides “a supportive place for students to thrive both academically and socially, endless entertainment options and cultural and economic enhancements from the area university.”

The ranking was determined by finding towns with:

  • A high concentration of schools
  • A highly-educated population
  • A high population of young adults (25-29 years old)
  • Diversity, where education is a dominant employer
  • Division I athletics
  • Affordable housing
