RALEIGH, N.C. -- It's getting cooler outside and that makes for perfect running weather. That's exactly why hundreds are gathering in North Carolina this weekend, and it’s also for a very good cause.

  • RDC Marathon and Half Marathon is joining forces with the Team Drea Foundation to help raise money and awareness for local ALS research
  • On Saturday, November 10, a 5K and 10K will take place

Jason Biggs is the organizer of the second annual RDC Marathon and Half Marathon and, this year, the race is joining forces with the Team Drea Foundation to help raise money and awareness for local ALS research.

Sitting down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair, Biggs said the foundation became near and dear to his heart, after meeting Andrea Lytle Peet, who was diagnosed in 2015 with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The young mother, daughter, wife, and avid race runner and rider decided to start her own foundation in an effort to fund research to help find a cure.

New this year, the race is offering distances so that anyone can take part. On Saturday, November 10, a 5K and 10K will take place.

Runners and walkers for the 10K will hit their marks at 6:30 a.m. followed by the 5K at 8 a.m. Then on Sunday, November 11, the half and full marathon will get underway, all starting and ending at the Streets of Southpoint in Durham. If you want to take part you’re in luck. Sign up is available through the weekend.
