Raleigh— It’s a cult classic on the big and small screen, but this weekend you’re getting the chance to catch a truly special performance of The Rocky Horror Show the musical.  The toe tapping, dance having, show for the adults, not only features local theater legends and New York actors alike, but also a former anchorman turned Internet sensation, the one and only Penn Holderness.

Holderness sat down with Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair for a look at the show, and why he decided to take on the role of Riff Raff head on.  Although he performed on stage growing up, Holderness says he’s still nervous about taking part in the play that also features Raleigh’s own Jesse Gephart as Dr. Frank N Furter.  We hear him sing many a song on the family’s famous YouTube page, but Holderness says this is the first time he’s ever had real voice lessons in his life.

A brief preview video of the musical shows the talent is fierce, but the cast only had 3 weeks to prepare for the performances.  And mother nature is also throwing a wrench in their plans.  Friday’s performance is being moved to Sunday due to the threat of storms.  But that’s not keeping this crew, head by the theater’s newest star, from ‘Time Warping’ ahead in the Halloween spirit.

If you would to come out and take part in the fun, Theatre Raleigh’s The Rocky Horror Show runs at Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre on Saturday and Sunday at 7:30pm.  Tickets are still available, and those purchased on Friday will be honored other nights.  You are also encouraged to dress up and take an active roll in the play’s performance.
