Raleigh -- Thousands of people are expected to take part in a growing annual event this weekend.  The 20th Triangle Buddy Walk fundraiser features celebrity and local stars with down syndrome.  And this year, they’ve already got a large number of folks pre-registered to take part in the special day of events.

Spectrum News anchor Caroline Blair got an inside glimpse at the walk that’s set to take place on Sunday, October 7th, with Christina Reeves, The Triangle Down Syndrome Network Executive Director.

This year’s walk theme is “Shine Like a Star” featuring Christina Sanz of the hit A&E show “Born this Way”.  It will allow celebrity and local stars with Down Syndrome to come together and raise awareness of their abilities and star-power.  All proceeds from the  Buddy walk an other TDSN events go directly to help North Carolina families.  In the past, this event has helped raise more than $2 million to help increase access and care for pre and postnatal family support, training and education for those in the medical community, advocacy and outreach, and social opportunities for caregivers.
