HIGH POINT, N.C. — Before the start of the 2024 season, High Point University women's lacrosse head coach Lyndsey Boswell wasn't feeling quite right.
At High Point, Boswell has built a program that has been a dominant force in the Big South Conference. She was named the coach in 2009, and the team has won 13 Big South regular-season championships. The Panthers have made six NCAA tournament trips under Boswell.
HPU continued to win games on the field, but off of it she faced her toughest test last season.
Before the Panthers played a game, Boswell went to the the doctor.
"I wasn't myself, and the fatigue set it in, and I felt that I needed to get checked," Boswell said.
She found out that she had stage 3 cervical cancer, and Coach Boz went into attack mode.
"I had six weeks of chemotherapy, and during that six weeks of chemotherapy I had radiation every day," she said.
While going through the aggressive treatment plan, Boswell didn't miss a game.
Panthers senior Mandy Brockamp took notice of her coach's dedication and was inspired by what she saw.
"There was our Winthrop game last year, she was literally getting off of a plane from treatment and was there by the starting whistle and if that doesn't go to show how strong coach Boswell is and how much she loves us and puts us before her and her family at times, I mean that goes to show so much," Brockamp said.
Now, Boswell is in remission and continues to get treatment every six weeks.
The Panthers finished the 2025 season 11-5 overall and 7-1 in the Big South. They finished the season in a three-way tie for first place and will be the No. 2 seed in the Big South Conference tournament. The Panthers face off against No. 3 seed Furman at 7 p.m. Friday.
