RALEIGH, N.C. --The Carolina Hurricanes traded forward Victor Rask to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for forward Nino Niederreiter on Thursday.

  • Niederreiter has 23 points so far this season (9G, 14A), in 46 games played with the Wild
  • Rask has only appeared in 26 games this season, after an off-season non-hockey injury kept him sidelined
  • The Hurricanes are home to face the Ottawa Senators Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re excited to welcome a proven goal-scorer and veteran presence in Nino Niederreiter,” Hurricanes General Manager Don Waddell said, in a release by the club. “We wish Victor the best moving forward and thank him for his efforts on the ice and in the community during his time in Raleigh.”

The 26-year-old Niederreiter has 23 points so far this season (9G, 14A), in 46 games played with the Wild. He is a former first-round draft pick, selected fifth overall by the New York Islanders in 2010, and ranks first in goals scored among Swiss-born players with 112 in his career.

Rask has only appeared in 26 games this season, after an off-season non-hockey injury kept him sidelined. He has totaled six points for Carolina this season (1G, 5A). Rask was a second round selection in the 2011 draft by the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are home to face the Ottawa Senators Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
