GREENSBORO, N.C. -- USA Water Polo is on a mission to expand the Olympic sport.

  • The Olympic Development East Regional tournament came to the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
  • California is the epicenter and North Carolina is a ripe market for USA Water Polo to expand.
  • The other goal is developing the young men to maybe one day compete in the Olympics for the national team.

Part of that mission is to bring it to markets that haven't experienced the game that is seen worldwide every four years competing for Olympic gold. That's why the Olympic Development East Regional tournament came to the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Three levels of ages made up the 40-team field competing in the three-day showcase. USA Water Polo hosted the event with hopes of seeing the sport grow across the country. California is the epicenter and North Carolina is a ripe market for USA Water Polo to expand.

Carolina Water Polo is a club team that has athletes from all over the state of North Carolina that competed in the tournament. The other goal is developing the young men to maybe one day compete in the Olympics for the national team.
