KERNERSVILLE, N.C. — One hundred and three years, that’s how long Lindsay Tise has been on this Earth. He’s been golfing about 90 of those years.

“As a kid, I caddied at the Forsyth Country Club because I lived right close to them,” Tise said. “They let me play after hours.”

What You Need To Know

  • Lindsay Tise has been playing golf since he was a teenager, and now he's 103 years old
  • Tise did have to take a break when World War II broke out

He had to put his play on pause for a bit during World War II. But now, at 103, he’s still got a lot of spirit in him.

“Oh, well, I declare!” Tise exclaimed, after ripping a drive down the fairway.

Spectrum News 1 met Tise at the North Carolina Senior Games, a competition for people 50 and older in states around the country. He’s the oldest competitor out of every athlete this year.

The games are biannual and happen in N.C. and other places nationally during April and May. Tise recently played golf earlier this month at Pine Knolls Golf Club in Winston-Salem.

“Feels like I’m getting old!" Tise said with a laugh.

But to him, age is just a number.

“I really don’t know how a 103-year-old man is supposed to feel, but I’m feeling good for any kind of man!” Tise said.

One thing that helped at the games was having his son there. Tim Tise drove all the way up from Georgia to caddy for his dad.

“It’s just nice to have him around, still,” Tim Tise said. "Not too many that have that opportunity.”

When he reflects on his father, he thinks about his passion.

“His attitude toward life, I guess,” Tim Tise said. “Just embracing the day.”

Lindsay Tise says the secret for a long life is lots of love. He and his wife were married for a long time before she passed away in 2013.

“She fed me well for 71 years,” he said.

It shows, as this 103-year-old just refuses to act his age.
