GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Wyndham Championship brings in the best pros from all over the world to play golf, and it also brings in the best groundskeepers in the state to keep the course in top condition.

The Wyndham Championship recruits the best groundskeepers in the state

They do most of their work before the sun comes up

The groundskeepers are the "unsung heroes" of the tournament

While everyone's still asleep and the sun hasn't come up, these groundskeepers are working harder than ever. In fact, the Wyndham Championship just wouldn't be possible without them.

Every morning at 4:30 a.m. a parade of 60 groundskeepers heads out to their designated greens.

"We are off to the practice facility. That's where we start our day, just kind of checking in on everyone," Nathan Webb, the assistant superintendent at Sedgefield Country Club said.

Sedgefield Country Club is where the tournament is held, and Webb is responsible for checking on the volunteers' work on the back nine holes. He's been doing this for a little over four years now.

"I got into this because I've done nothing but play golf ever since I was a kid, and I guess I realized I wasn't quite good enough to make it a career," Webb said.

However, he is good enough to manage one of the best maintained courses in the country for top golfers.

"I think my favorite part about this week is the best players in the world get to play a course that we worked so hard on 365 days a year," Webb emphasized.

Most people don't see the hard work these groundskeepers do every day.
"I think a lot of people think they just wake up and snap their fingers and they get a perfect golf course, but that's not the case. We work hard out here and we're done before anyone sees it," Webb explained.

Their jobs are so important because Webb and his team are the last eyes to see the course before the pros do.

Webb says his whole team loves this event and they work their hardest to make the greens as perfect as possible.

The groundskeepers also come back each evening to work on the greens, and they will continue these double shifts through Sunday to give the PGA golfers the best course possible.
