GREENSBORO, N.C. — At or below freezing temperatures caused a significant accumulation of ice throughout the Triad on Thursday.

The National Weather Service put the area under a winter storm warning until Friday morning.

Ice accumulation has led to multiple downed trees throughout the Triad, bringing down power lines and even crushing cars. Duke Energy has been working to restore outages across the area, but several thousand are still without.

On Twitter, the city of Greensboro announced that all offices and facilities will remain closed throughout the day.

Elsewhere, Alamance County declared a state of emergency on Thursday morning.

While the freezing rain should move out of the area by this weekend, there is expected to be lingering impacts from downed trees and power lines.
