LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) announced a critical need for donors as blood shortages plague numerous areas of the nation. KBC, which supplies blood to more than 70 Kentucky hospitals, is urging donors of all blood types to make an appointment and donate.

“We do not issue critical appeals for donors unless the situation absolutely dictates a need,” Bill Reed, KBC president and CEO, said. “Our initial surge in supply during the pandemic has been exhausted and with elective surgeries not only resuming, but increasing from their normal level, blood donors are urgently needed.”

Appointments are required and can be scheduled online or by calling 800-775-2522. All six of KBC's donor centers are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Somerset Donor Center, 10 Stonegate Centre (Stoplight 16A), Somerset

Other blood drive locations are available. Donors should wear face coverings at their appointments.
