BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A local company is using an old building for a new concept.

  • The old co-op building in downtown Burlington will soon become a food hall, an idea that came directly from the community
  • Citizens make it clear that they wanted a place where the community could gather and wanted it centered around food
  • Developers hope to start construction in the next 30 days and are aiming for an early fall opening

The old co-op building in downtown Burlington will soon become a food hall, an idea that came directly from the community.

After the co-op grocery story closed, the owner of the property asked people who live in town what they would want to see in its place.

Citizens make it clear that they wanted a place where the community could gather and wanted it centered around food.

Burlington based Core Properties and Development is overseeing the project that, at this point, is very close to indoor construction.

All of the vendors for the space have committed, except for one.

Every kiosk will be a local company, who have either already established locations in North Carolina or they plan to use the space as a jumping off point.

The owner says she's excited about the impact the food hall could have on the community.

Developers hope to start construction in the next 30 days and are aiming for an early fall opening.
