Duke plans to increase residential rates by 6.7 percent to generate an additional $445 million in revenue.

The company says some of the extra money will go toward coal ash cleanup.

But in order to implement the new rates, Duke needs approval from the North Carolina Utilities Commission and that board is asking for your input.

There's a public meeting next Wednesday at the Alamance County Historic Courthouse in Graham at 7 p.m.

The commission is holding more of these hearings through the spring before it makes a decision.

If you can't make it, you can also submit your comments via email or letter to the utilities commission.
