  • The gunfire detection system is expected to be implemented in the next few months

The department was given a $699,608 federal grant for the technology.

The system uses acoustic sensors to detect, identify, and triangulate the source of sounds that may represent gunfire, so police can respond more quickly and accurately to the location.

“A lot of times when these things occur, timing is super important so getting an officer to the site more rapidly gives us a far higher possib ility of actually retrieving a gun, stopping a crime, and really raising public safety,” said Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee, Jeff MacIntosh.

The gunfire detection system is expected to be implemented in the next few months.
