ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- A child is in critical condition following an incident on the Dan River Sunday afternoon.

  • The Madison-Rockingham County rescue squad came to the Lindsey Bridge Road access point, where they found an off-duty sheriff's deputy performing life saving efforts on the minor
  • Officials say this area gets a lot of emergency calls
  • It's known as a "drowning machine" due to the hydraulic force

The Madison-Rockingham County rescue squad came to the Lindsey Bridge Road access point, where they found an off-duty sheriff's deputy performing life saving efforts on the minor.

The rescue squad used a basket and rope to pull the child up a 50-foot embankment.

Officials say this area gets a lot of emergency calls. 

 

It's known as a "drowning machine" due to the hydraulic force.

Rescuers took the child to a local hospital in critical condition.
