FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- Festival goers, Forsyth County EMS, and North Carolina Wine Festival organizers prepared for temperatures well into the 80's.

  • Experts say drinking and heat can be a dangerous combination
  • Festival organizers say they were prepared for the heat
  • The festival brought in more than 30 North Carolina wineries

"I have two water vendors out there selling water. We encouraged all our vendors to do the same and stay hydrated. We have EMS here with their huge trailer, and they have water and misting machines out there today," Lisa Hobbs, one of the organizers, said.

EMS was also stationed throughout the event. They say drinking and heat can be a dangerous combination.

"The heat and the alcohol kind of enhances each other. They work off of each other, so if you get somebody out here that's already dehydrated and hasn't had a whole lot to drink and they start getting alcohol in them, they tend to get the effects in them even more," Joshua Hunter with Forsyth County EMS said.

Several festival goers say they were determined to have fun despite the heat.

"We're going to drink a glass of wine, drink a bottle of water, glass of wine, water, and then eat some really good crab cakes in a little bit," Shannon Hill and Candace Doherty said.

The festival brought in over 30 North Carolina wineries.
