CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana. It is derived directly form the hemp plant, which is in the same family as the marijuana plant. It is said to help humans with anxiety, nausea, and appetite. In addition, it has anti-inflammatory properties and many other benefits.

A lot of pet owners are turning to CBD shops, like iHemp in High Point for help. CBD salesman, Denzell Boyd, said pet products are some of their most sold items.

"Pets are like people's children, we are not going to do anything to harm you or your pets, so we really research our products extensively," Boyd said.

Dr. Rebecca Slivka at Northwood Animal Hospital said there is no evidence that it treats animals the same.

"There really is a large amount of FDA approved medications for a lot of the illnesses that CBD oil kind of claims to treat so, I think there is better options out there until we learn more about this product," Slivka said.

Dr. Slivka also said it is especially hard to understand what your pet may be feeling. "Let's say we take something and it does not make us feel right, you can be like okay, maybe I should stop taking this, I am not too sure, but a pet unless they show a serious symptom, they can not say 'Hey I do not like the way this is making me feel.'"

Boyd explained the store only purchases the best recommended brands from their wholesaler. He said anytime you are giving your pets anything they are not used to it is a good idea to talk to a professional.

"I am not a professional here, I am just a professional on the products that I have in store, so any other medications your dog or pets may be on, you always want to get the okay from your vet before starting them on something new," Boyd said.

Veterinarians recommend checking the certification of analysis to see the exact ingredients in all CBD products before using it on your pets. They also explain to if you purchase these products to follow the proper directions on the label.
