DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A deputy shot a suspect who allegedly took someone from a Sheetz with a knife, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

  • Deputies believe the suspect entered the Sheetz and took someone out of the store at knifepoint
  • A Davidson County deputy confronted the person and tried to diffuse the situation but fired when they would not comply

The Sheriff's Office says the incident happened Tuesday night at the Sheetz on Old U.S. 52 in Welcome around 10:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived, 45-year-old April Robertson was holding a Sheetz employee hostage at knife-point.

A Davidson County deputy confronted the Lexington woman and tried to diffuse the situation but fired when she would not comply.

Deputies and EMS tried to provide aid but Robertson died. The deputy will be placed on administrative leave while the State Bureau of Investigation investigates.
