GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Mild weather that finished the work week will give way to cool and damp conditions this weekend. Light rain will arrive in the Triad late overnight. The rain will then become heavier as we approach sunrise Saturday.

The wettest weather of the weekend will likely occur Saturday morning. Most of the area should see around a half inch of rain before the showers taper off to spotty drizzle or end all together for the afternoon.

Saturday's high temperatures in the upper 40s will occur early in the morning. We will then drop through the 40s during the afternoon. Lows in the low to mid 30s are forecast for Sunday morning.

Another batch of rain will arrive Sunday and continue into at least early Monday morning.

Sunday's high temperatures will only top out in the mid to upper 40s.

An active southern branch of the jet stream will keep us in unsettled weather with on and off rain through the end of next week. Some computer model forecasts suggest rain chances could continue into the following weekend.

For now, we expect between two and five inches of rain for the North Carolina Piedmont over the next seven days. Higher totals of up to eight or nine inches could fall in the southern mountains of the state. Lower amounts closer to one to three inches are forecast near the southeast coast.
