NORTH CAROLINA -- Friday’s Google Doodle celebrates music legend Earl Scruggs.

Scruggs died in 2012, but would have celebrated his 95th birthday earlier this month.

The animation shows Scruggs and his three-finger banjo-picking style, which has become a defining characteristic of bluegrass music and the most popular style of banjo playing.

Scruggs was born in Cleveland County in 1924. A museum, The Earl Scruggs Center, opened there in 2014.
