THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- The Perry Memorial Church of The Living God held services in a fellowship hall next door after its roof collapsed during last week's winter storm.

  • The church's bishop said God has other plans for this congregation
  • He said it is the people that make the church
  • In 2012, vandals set fire to the building

"We got a call from one of the neighbors around that the church had collapsed, and we were devastated because we didn't expect that to happen," the church's pastor, Efrain Machado said.

He said it is the people that make the church.

"The people make up the church. The building has collapsed, but the church is still standing," Machado said.

The church's bishop said God has other plans for this congregation.

"I think this will just make us stronger. I know God has something different, something better for all of us," Donnie Robinette said.

Machado says God will help them through the tough time.

"With the help of God, we will rebuild the temple again," he said.

This was not the first time the church was damage. In 2012, vandals set fire to the building.
