WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- A woman is recovering after she was attacked by several dogs in Winston-Salem Monday morning.

  • Police say the woman was walking down East Sprague Street near Peachtree Street when five dogs came running towards her.
  • Four of the dogs pulled her down and started biting her leg and head.
  • Police arrested a man they say lives at the house on Sprague Street where the dogs were.

Police say the woman was walking down East Sprague Street near Peachtree Street when five dogs came running towards her.

Four of the dogs pulled her down and started biting her leg and head.

Officers say that since tethering's been banned, many pet owners are resorting to kennels but those aren't always secure.

"My suggestion would be if you cannot ensure that your dog's going to be secure in a kennel outside, then you need it to put inside the house.," said Sgt. Randy Brown of the Forsyth County Animal Control.

Police arrested a man they say lives at the house on Sprague Street where the dogs were.

Sgt. Brown says they found 11 dogs total running loose from that house.

We're told the charges are pending.
