JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- The Wreaths Across America program is short this year on the number of wreaths they can buy to lay on veteran graves, according to organizers all over the coastal cities.

The organizer in Jacksonville, Pat Walker, says they only have enough money to lay 2,500 wreaths at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, but there are almost 5,900 veterans and dependents buried there.

“I think the storm really impacted us. Two of our funding events had to be canceled because of Florence so that cut into what we were able to raise,” said Walker.

The wreath shortages extend to the New Bern and Wilmington National Veteran Cemeteries as well. The deadline to purchase a $15 wreath is Saturday.
