WINSTON-SALEM-- As the temperature dips below freezing, Unchain Winston is giving out free dog houses to help keep your furry friends warm.

  • They recommend that you put straw or cedar chips inside the house for insulation
  • The organization encourages you to get a house for your dog, even if they're only outside during the day
  • If you need a dog house, stop by the animal shelter on Sturmer Park Circle and fill out an application

They recommend that you put straw or cedar chips inside the house for insulation and stay away from putting blankets inside, which can freeze if they get wet.

The organization encourages you to get a house for your dog, even if they're only outside during the day.

Keith Murphy, the co-founder of Unchain Winston said, "Even still if they're just outside during the day and then at night, you still want to have a safe shelter for them to go to in case the weather changes or it gets cold out."

If you need a dog house, stop by the animal shelter on Sturmer Park Circle and fill out an application.

The organization is also still accepting donations, so if you own a dog house you’re no longer using, you can drop it off at the shelter.
