An area of low pressure and chilly temperatures are creating a mess of things as we begin the weekend. Due to near freezing temperatures freezing rain and sleet is mixing in with regular rainfall for the Greensboro-Triad area this morning. As we slowly warm up, any wintry mix will transition to rain. A Winter Weather Advisory will remain in effect for much of the Triad until 9 Saturday morning.

As for the Triangle and Sandhills area, temperatures are just warm enough for regular rainfall. As the low tracks north and east, we'll continue with a wet setup through midday. Dry air along with high pressure will build in through the afternoon so we'll have clearer skies and dry weather later this afternoon.

Highs today will reach the upper 40s for the Greensboro-Triad area, and the low to mid 50s for the Triangle and Sandhills.

High pressure will stick around through Sunday keeping the rest of our weekend nice and dry. By Monday a new cold front will march into the area and provide a low chance of rain. It will likely be a moisture deprived front, but there should be enough there for mostly cloudy skies and a few spotty showers Monday.

Temperatures will likely remain below average over the next week in the 40s and 50s.
