A back door cold front invaded and marched through the Carolinas Thursday morning. Now for our Friday the cold air-mass behind in truly has a strangle hold on the area. Many locations began the day below freezing, and despite sunny skies many locations will be well below normal today.

For the Triad expect a chilly and sunny morning followed by an afternoon with gradual increasing clouds. Highs will range from the upper 30s to low 40s. The Triangle and Sandhills area will deal with sunny skies from beginning to end today. Temperatures will be slightly warmer in the mid 40s to low 50s. Skies will remain mostly clear this evening before becoming cloudy late tonight and overnight.

An area of low pressure will approach the region from the south west. Rain will likely enter the state near midnight today and track east through Saturday morning. Expect widespread moderate showers with some pockets of heavy rainfall. Drier conditions will arrive later in the afternoon Saturday and remain through Sunday thanks to a weak area of high pressure.

Another round of rain is possible late Sunday night/Monday morning as another weak disturbance moves through the Carolinas.
