RALEIGH, N.C. -- Donate Life NC is encouraging people to “Be the Hero Your Dog Sees.” It's part of a summer campaign to promote the need for more organ donors.

  • More than 3,100 North Carolinians are waiting for a lifesaving transplant.
  • One organ donor can save up to eight lives.
  • There are no age limits to donate.

Also, several transplant recipients credit their dogs for keeping them active and positive post-transplant treatment and recovery.

Right now, there are more than 3,100 North Carolinians waiting for a lifesaving transplant.

Across the country, more than 114,400 people in the U.S. are on the waiting list.

The organization says making a difference is as easy as making sure you're on the NC organ, eye and tissue donor registry.

One organ donor can save up to eight lives and heal more than 75 through tissue donation.

There are no age limits and people with pre-existing conditions are welcome to join the registry too.
