Scattered afternoon storms likely Saturday and again Sunday.

  • Showers likely for the weekend
  • Should fade away by midnight each day
  • Tropics remain quiet

High temperatures both days will top out around 87 degrees after morning lows around 70. The storms should start to develop around midday and could contain briefly heavy downpours with gusty winds. The storms should fade away by midnight each day.

We've already had more than 5" of rain across the triad this month and we are only 10 days in. The wettest August ever recorded in Greensboro was in 1939 when 12" of rain fell. Surprisingly, there wasn't even a tropical storm or hurricane that contributed to all that rain.

The tropics remain quiet, although a disturbance is moving across the equatorial region and could possibly become 'Ernesto' next week.
