GREENSBORO -- Around 100 of the best divers in the country, including three Olympians, are in Greensboro this week for the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships.

In the last five years, the Greensboro Aquatic Center has hosted three USA Diving events.

"The GAC is one of the best pools in the country which allows for our athletes to perform at a peak level,” said National Events Manager Chris Zukas.

This year, around 100 of the country's best divers are competing for 10 national championship titles. Zukas said the youngest competitor is 14 years old, and the oldest is 40.

"We should see some great diving and some new dives being used,” said Indiana University diving coach Drew Johansen.

Plus, three Olympians, including Michael Hixon, are set to take the stage.

"The preparations for this and the Olympics were a bit different for sure,” said Hixon. “The Olympics were the peak of the quad, the four years, which is different than December Nationals right here, but this is good because we are still getting started in our season right now."

Hixon and the other Olympians are also working to get back to peak performance after the 2016 games in Rio.

"It usually takes about a year to a year and a half to recover from an Olympic Games and get back into the collegiate world," said Johansen.

The event runs through Dec. 19. Daily tickets are being sold on site at the GAC box office. Weekday tickets are $5 for all ages or $8 to buy-one-get-one. And weekend tickets are $7 for all ages or $10 to buy-one-get-one.
