As this week’s 4th of July holiday approaches, there are plenty of firework vendors showing up in greater Rochester and the surrounding area.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Michael Fowler said he wants everyone to use their best judgment and be careful while having fun, including safely setting off fireworks.

“Rochester and the County of Monroe is a wonderful community and everybody loves to celebrate,” Fowler said. “And what a great reason to celebrate is the 4th of July, but with it comes personal responsibility and that's the message we want to put out."

Throughout the weekend, eager shoppers made their way to pop-up-tents to take advantage of sales and make last minute purchases.

Mark Henry, a New York Account Manager of Phantom Fireworks, said sales at his West Henrietta Road location have been strong. He also emphasizes following safety guidelines.

"Each and every sale comes with complete with firework safety descriptions on the bag and the individual pamphlet,” Henry said. “Light the device, get away, should the device malfunction, stay away from it. If you are suspect about it, douse it with water."

The minimum age to purchase fireworks is 18.
