ONSLOW COUNTY -- Folks in Bear Creek will no longer have to deal with the threat of paying more for fire protection.
Due to low staffing, Onslow County decided to merge with the Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Departmen in hopes of gaining low insurance rates for residents.
The State Department of Insurance did an inspection to establish the rating used to set premiums for homeowners.
During a press conference Friday, county commissioners were able to release the good news of residents having a class six rate.
The Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department is now state-approved with an excellent class rating in North Carolina.
