ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina congressman Madison Cawthorn raised more than $1 million for his campaign committee in the first quarter.

That's according to federal campaign filings due this week. Cawthorn is just 25 years old and has been considered a rising national star in the Republican Party since he won a 2020 primary runoff in the 11th District.

But he's also received criticism for public comments questioning the outcome of the presidential election won by Joe Biden. Several people already plan to challenge Cawthorn next year.

One is Democrat Jasmine Beach-Ferrara. Her campaign reported taking in $382,000 in just four weeks.
