CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NBA, with the help of Disney, could be eyeing a return to the 2019-2020 season sometime in late July, according to a statement from NBA Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass.

In a statement posted to the NBA's Twitter account on Saturday, Bass said the league and the National Basketball Players Association were in "exploratory conversations with the Walt Disney Company" about restarting the season at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Bay Lake, Florida near Orlando.

The site would reportedly serve as an NBA campus for games, practices, and housing.

"Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections are in place," Bass said in the statement.

The NBA announced it was officially suspending its season in early March after Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19. The league had initially hoped to continue without fan attendance.

So far, NASCAR is the only major sport to return to action following season suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
