SNEADS FERRY, N.C. -- A daycare has closed and some of the employees have been fired just a few weeks after a baby is said to have been intentionally dropped on its head. Police say that more charges could be filed.

  • A statement also reveals that Pringle, another teacher who was in the room at the time of the incident, and the school's director have been terminated.

The incident happened at Childcare Network on June 10.

Deputies say 23-year-old Bethan Pringle is being charged with child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury. There's no word on what the additional charges will be if any are added.

An investigation revealed that Pringle hurt the 11-month-old boy on purpose.

The baby has been checked by medical professionals and is expected to recover.

On the Childcare Network website, it says the daycare is closed until further notice.

A statement also reveals that Pringle, another teacher who was in the room at the time of the incident, and the school's director have been terminated.

In part, officials with the daycare said, "We closed the infant care rooms on June 21 and were no longer accepting infants at our Snead’s Ferry location while we were thoroughly reviewing the incident and developing a comprehensive training program for all the teachers there."

The state and local authorities are handling the investigation.
