WILMINGTON, N.C. -- From building homes from the ground up to hurricane relief, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity is stretching their mission with a new program.

The Disaster REBUILD Program (DRP) provides up to $35,000 per home for low-to-moderate income homeowners in New Hanover, Pender, and Duplin counties.

The executive director Steve Spain says their organization stepped up to help as soon as the storm hit.

"Something like Florence happens, and so many people are affected," said Spain. "Everybody does what they can, and that's the same for an organization as for an individual, so we're stretching a little."

Residents still in need can apply for assistance here.

Spain says with the funds they have, they plan to help rebuild about 25 homes.
