WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Recovering from illness and dehydration may no longer mean a visit to the emergency room, as long as the symptoms aren't severe.

  • Essential IV opened in Wilmington this year, and offers IV treatments to patients who decide for themselves they need it.
  • Essential IV doesn't charge insurance. Treatments start at a $125 rate, and can take 30 minutes to an hour.
  • Officials encourage those with extreme medical conditions to still visit the doctor or emergency room for illnesses that may be more than just dehydration.

Essential IV opened in Wilmington this year, and offers IV treatments to patients who decide for themselves they need it. IV options include hangover relief, athletic hydration, beauty boost, illness relief, and anti-fatigue.

Owner of the business, Dr. Rosalyn George said this is a way to more efficiently get the additional vitamins and minerals needed for an everyday diet.

"We notice that when you take vitamins orally, a lot of them you end up peeing out," said Dr. George. "You always see that bright... yellow color when you're taking vitamins because your body isn't using those efficiently. Right? It's not able to get them in to where it needs. And so, when you actually deliver them IV, the availability of those vitamins to where they need to go is much better."

Dr. George still encourages those with extreme medical conditions to still visit the doctor or emergency room for illnesses that may be more than just dehydration.
