LUMBERTON, N.C. -- The Lumberton Police Department has announced that one of their own died Saturday morning while assisting a crash.

Officials say around 6:10 a.m. Officer Jason Quick was dispatched to a traffic crash on I-95 northbound near exit 22.

While investigating the traffic crash Officer Quick was struck by another car and later died. The North Carolina Highway Patrol was contacted as well as the Robeson County District Attorney’s office to investigate the crash scene.

"He's one of those people that you wish you had a whole lot of them. He loved his job he was diligent in what he did. You could tell this was a career for him," deputy police chief Tommy Barnes said.

Mourning ribbons were placed at the Lumberton Police Department.

Officials say he was married with two children. It is unclear whether charges will be filed at this time.
