CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. -- Two tornadoes touched down in Carteret County Saturday.

  • The EF-0 tornado hit the town of Cape Carteret at speeds of up to 80 mph.
  • The EF-2 tornado hit Emerald Isle at speeds of up to 120 mph.
  • No one was hurt.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado hit in the town of Cape Carteret. It had speeds of up to 80 miles per hour and managed to take down a tree and cause minor damage to homes and power lines. 

The tornado path started along the shores of Bogue Sound near Bayshore Drive and quickly moved north, northeast across Live Oak Drive.

 

 

Another EF-2 tornado hit several homes after the first one in Emerald Isle around 2 p.m. with estimate wind speeds as high as 120 miles per hour.
 
The tornado started near the intersection of 8th Street and Ocean Drive, where windows shattered on homes and one couple lost their roof while inside. 

FEMA officials say homeowners who were still making repairs from Hurricane Florence will continue to do so through FEMA.

A large work trailer was also overturned and part of the roofing material torn off a home landed across Highway 58.

 

 

No one was hurt.
